Donald (1887-1967) was a son of Donald Macdonald and Flora Macdonald of Claddach Baleshare. He was a Stonemason and later became known as Dòmhnall Ruadh Chorùna, as his home was named Coruna.
He joined the Inverness-shire unit of the King's Militia when he was seventeen. When War broke out in 1914 he joined the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders and fought in the Battle of Loos and the Battle of the Somme where he was wounded and returned to Hospital in England. He returned to France and served with the West Riding Field Regiment. During the Great War Donald composing bardachd, poems and songs in his native Gaelic, about his experiences.
In 1922 Donald married Ann Macdonald Anna Ruairidh 'ic Nèill (1890–1971). The couple lived at Coruna, Claddach Baleshare and they had two children.
In 1966 he made several recordings for the School of Scottish Studies and Tobar an Dualchais
