108492: How Benelehen got its name

This original legend was told to Anna Mackinnon by Roderick Maclean (Ruaridh Phadraig), 8 Timsgarry. It is a traditional record and the date is totally unknown. Baile na Cille cemetery was banked up with sand, obviously to make more burying space and the man who banked it up was called Eilidhean, who was given the hill in Ardroil for doing that.  He gave the name to the hill, which is called Beinn Eilidhean (Benelehen in English). Also part of the legend was that he had a horse and used two baskets on each side to carry the sand from the beach up to the cemetery.
