The diary of John Munro Mackenzie, who was Chamberlain of the Lews (or factor) under Sir James Matheson between 1848 and 1854. The diary covers only 1851, a significant year in both the re-lotting of Lewis and the emigration of many hundreds of destitute tenants to Canada.
