A selection from the collection of early plate-glass black and white slides taken mainly in the 1930s by Dr Donald Macdonald, who was known as "Dolly Doctor". The captioned images depict life in Lewis and other islands in the Outer Hebrides, published for the first time. The slides are particularly strong in their coverage of aspects of rural life such as fishing, the shielings, spinning, dying and weaving, going to the peats, crofting families and blackhouses.
