9921: Bess Munro

Bess (1849-1922) was a daughter of Norman Munro and Isabella Macleod, Gleann Tharmoid, Keose Glebe.

The family moved to Caverstay Common in 1859 and in 1861 she was living with her sister Marion at 7 Keose.

In Lochs, in 1872, she  married Kenneth Macrae, 5 Grimshader. Bess and Kenneth settled at 5b Grimshader and they had seven children.

Bess, being the seventh consecutive female child in the family was considered to be capable of curing the 'Boils', known as 'The Kings Evil' (Scofula) which at one time was cure by the King's touch. The tradition in the Islands was that the affected part be sprinkled with water in which the seventh child had washed or dipped his or her hands.
