John, born 1840, was a son of Angus and Christina nee Macaulay, Valtos. He married Jane nee Macdonald, 6 Geshader who assumed tenancy of that croft. In addition to the children mentioned below their first child was Christina Mackay b. 17 December 1872, who must have died young or in infancy
