93524: John Maclennan

John (1906-1940) was a son of John Maclennan and Mary Smith of 60 North Tolsta.

60 North Tolsta passed to John upon the death of his father in 1934.

During the Second World War John served with the Royal Naval Reserve aboard the HMS Boreas. He was killed on the 25th of July when the ship was bombed. The Stornoway Gazette published news of his death on the 2nd August 1940, and published his poem, Fadachd an t-seoladair, on 3rd August 1940. He was buried in St James’s Cemetery, Dover.

After John’s death, 60 North Tolsta passed to his sister Catherine.
