93123: Donald Morrison

Donald (1912-1973) was the son of Donald Morrison and Catherine Murray of 46 North Tolsta.

During World War Two he served with the Royal Navy and, on the 19th of August 1942, he manned a launch craft during the raid on the French Port of Dieppe. During the raid his launch craft was sunk and he, and his officer, were the only two of their crew to survive; the pair were rescued by his neighbour Kenneth (Curry) Maciver after they made their way to the trawler, Kingston Beryl. Donald was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal for gallantry.

Donald married Christina Macdonald, of 6 New Tolsta, and the couple settled at Broadbay View, Back. They had a son (now deceased) and a daughter.
