Alexander (born 1851) was the son of John Murray and Mary Mackenzie. The family moved from 6 Old South Tolsta to 37 North Tolsta the year of his birth. It is not clear if he ever lived at 6 Old South Tolsta.

In 1853 the family emigrated, to the Eastern Townships of Quebec.

Alexander married Marion Morrison, of Quebec, whose family had links with Back.
