92949: Donald Mackay

Donald (1791-1845) was the son of Norman Mackay, of Galson.

Donald married Christina Macleod, of Upper Barvas, it is not known where the couple lived during their early marriage, or where their first two children were born. Donald does not appear on the sub-tenants list of Old South Tolsta Tack in 1820: but as that was just prior to their first child being born they may have move shortly after.

In 1830, during the croft lottings, the family obtained 2 Old South Tolsta and had a further four children. In total they had six children: four boys and two girls. None of their five youngest children married and there are no known details of what happened to their eldest child.

After Donald’s death his widow obtained 42 North Tolsta, in the 1851 croft relottings.

In due course 42 North Tolsta passed to their youngest son: Donald.
