Donald (born 1834) was the son of Angus Macleod and Annie Maciver, of 10 Old South Tolsta. In 1843 the family exchanged crofts and settled at 1 Old South Tolsta. Donald's father sent him to board in Stornoway so he could attend the school there.
In 1851, during the croft relottings, his parents obtained 36 North Tolsta. However, it is not certain Donald was still living in the parental home at this time.
Donald married Mary Morrison, of 10 North Dell, and the couple settled in North Dell.
In 1870 his mother died and his father married Henrietta Macaskill.
In 1873 Donald and his wife emigrated to the Eastern Townships of Quebec, along with Donald's father, stepmother and the majority of his siblings.
