92179: Roderick Maciver
Roderick (1894-1917) was the son of John Maciver and Mary Macleod; the family were cottars at 25 North Tolsta. The house they lived in was thatched and opposite the Free Presbyterian Church.
Roderick served with the Royal Navy Reserves during the war. He was on the minesweeper HMY Zarefah when she hit a mine, on the 8th May 1917, he, and 15 other men, drowned off Mull Head in Orkney. More information can be found on the North Tolsta World War One website.
