Alexander Smith (1833-1895) was a son of John Smith and Catherine Macdonald, of 4 Old North Tolsta.
In 1853 the family moved to 24 North Tolsta.
Alexander married his step niece Mary Maciver, of 32 North Tolsta. The couple settled at 24 North Tolsta as cottars. They had ten children: five boys and five girls.
The cottars’ house at 24 North Tolsta passed to Alexander’s youngest son Murdo.
