Alex (born 1903) was the son of Donald Murray and Margaret Murray, of 22 North Tolsta.

Alex married Ann Smith, of 65 North Tolsta, and the couple settled at 22 North Tolsta and had their first child. Alex began building 22 Lochside, North Tolsta.

The couple's second child was born at 65 North Tolsta, in 1938.

By 1941, Alex had finished building 22 Lochside and the family had moved in; the couple had a further two children there. In total they had four children: three girls and a boy.

In 1955, Alex purchased 35 North Tolsta, from Christina Maclennan; there was no house on the croft. The family continued to live at Lochside but started using 35 North Tolsta as their address.

In due course 35 North Tolsta passed to their youngest daughter.
