91867: William Macleod

William (1909-1940) was the son of Angus Macleod and Mary Macleod.

William married Christina Macmillan, of Bayhead, Stornoway, (ex 2 Glen Tolsta) and the couple settled in Whiteinch, Glasgow.

William died, on the 8th July 1940, while serving with the Royal Navy Reserves, aboard the minesweeper HMS Cayton Wyke, during World War Two. His body was discovered, early the following year, on the Dutch coast and interred at the Noordwijk General Cemetery, Plot 1, joint grave 6. This event was reported in the Stornoway District News 17th January 1941; unfortunately the article managed to get the ship’s name incorrect.
