91767: Mary Smith

Mary Smith (1766-1853) married Roderick Murray.

In around 1798 Roderick was tricked into joining the Seaforth Highlanders and was away from Lewis for 21 years, serving in the Napoleonic Wars. Mary assumed he was dead and, during his absence, had two children with Alexander Campbell of Tong.

When Roderick returned, in around 1818, he adopted her children. By 1820 Mary and Roderick were living in Old South Tolsta Tack.

In 1830, during the crofts lotting, the family obtained 18 Old South Tolsta.

In 1851, during the croft relottings, the couple moved to 19 North Tolsta, and Mary died not long afterwards.
