91715: Donald Maciver

Donald (1865-1917) was the son of Murdo Maciver and Mary Murray of 17 North Tolsta.

Donald married Jane Maciver and moved to 82 Longate, Peterhead, Aberdeenshire; the couple had two children (but no further details are known about them).

During the First World War Donald subtracted five years off his age in order to enlist.

Donald was drowned, off the Turkish coast, when the HMS Newmarket was sunk by U-boat on the 17th July 1917. Further details can be found at North Tolsta’s World War One website and at the Lewis Wargraves website, the latter link includes a photograph of the gravestone erected for him, and for his brother Murdo, by his brother Angus. A direct link to that photograph is here.
