91631: Malcolm Mackay

Malcolm (1831-1903) was the son of John Mackay and Ann Morrison, of 16 Old North Tolsta.

Malcolm’s mother died in 1831. Sometime later his father married Jessie Smith, and had a further three children.

It seems likely that Malcolm was still living in the parental home when the family moved to 16 North Tolsta in 1853.

Malcolm married Isabella Macrae of 44 North Tolsta and the couple settled as cottars there. The first of their seven children was born in 1859. At least three of their children died in infancy.

Malcolm was widowed in 1876.

Malcolm’s second wife was Annabella Mackenzie, of 62 Back and 17 Back, and the couple had two children together.

At some point the family moved to Stornoway.
