Mary (1856-1947) was the daughter of John Macleod and Jessie Mackay. It is not certain where the family were living at the time of her birth; there are links to 2 Newvalley on her father's side and to 16 North Tolsta on her mother's side.

By the time her twin brothers were born, in 1870, the family were living at 2 Newvalley.

Mary married Duncan Murray, of 23 Newvalley. The couple settled at 1 Guershader.

Mary's sister Ann died in 1886.

Mary's parents, and at least one of her siblings, emigrated to Manitoba, Canada, in 1891.

By the time of the 1911 census the couple had nine children.
