91143: John Macleod

John (1854-1894) was the son of Donald Macleod and Christina Smith; the family were cottars at 67a North Tolsta.

John married Catherine Maciver, of 23 Coll, and the couple settled initially as cottars on his brother’s croft: 74 North Tolsta. They later settled as cottars at 23 Coll. The couple had five children, but it is not clear where they were born.

Once settled at 23 Coll the entire family contracted a contagious disease, probably Tuberculosis, from which they all died except the eldest son, Donald.
