861: John Smith

According to tradition Farquhar Smith, the tacksman of Earshader, brought two families from Old Mangersta in around 1800 to be his tenants at Earshader. These two families were Morrisons by birth but changed their surnames to Smith when they relocated. This John was one of these tenants (possibly the ‘John MacInish’ on record in Mangersta in 1787).

John seems to have married twice; his first wife was Isabella, mother of Catherine and his second wife, Catherine Maciver, was mother to his other children.
