77240: Neil MacAskill
Neil MacAskill, born 1770, possibly came from Scaristaveg, Harris to the Isle of Berneray. He married Mary MacRailt of Borve, with whom he had at least six children. By 1830 he was sole tenant of a croft in Borve, paying annual rent of £5.2.6, and joint tenant with his son Donald of a croft in Ruisgarry, paying rent of £6.5.0.
Aged 70, Neil appears in the 1841 Ruisgarry census as a farmer. By 1845, when Ruisgarry was being re-organised by the landowner into larger crofts, he and his wife seem to have moved to Obbe with their widowed daughter Isabella. He is assumed to have died not long afterwards.
