Duncan was born in 1883, the son of James MacLeod and Margaret MacDonald of Quay. He worked as a farm labourer and later a fisherman. Following his father’s death in 1926 he was passed the house at Quay, living there with his younger brothers and sister Catherine. On his death the property passed to Catherine.
