Catherine was born in 1867, the daughter of registrar Donald MacKay and Marion Paterson of Rubha Mor, moving with her parents to Baile when she was seven years old. She became a domestic servant and later a wool spinner. She remained unmarried, dying of supposed influenza in 1932.
