John, born 1775, was the son of Roderick MacKillop.  John married Catherine MacLeod, with whom he was to have at least nine children. John was a farmer and is shown on the tenancy rolls for Borve, paying £5.10s annual rent in 1818 rising to £5.13.4 by 1830. Their home was at a site now known as Tobhta Iain 'ic Bhàic.
