74507: Rachel MacAskill
Rachel, born about 1850, was the daughter of Taskill MacAskill and Sibla MacCusbic of Sheabie. Taskill was a farmer prior to 1854, when the crofts were cleared for the creation of Borve Farm. The family became cottars at a new home at Ferry, where Taskill made a living as a ferryman.
Rachel became a dairymaid and domestic servant, marrying Roderick MacKillop of Quay in 1872. She died in childbed the following year, shortly after the birth of their only child, whose name was changed from Margaret to Rachel.
Note: Ages provided by this family for each census were extremely variable. The birthdate entered here is derived from the 1851 census, the earliest in which Rachel appears, aged 6 months.
