74365: John MacLeod

John MacLeod was born in 1865, the son of Duncan MacLeod and Catherine Paterson of 16 Ruisgarry (Brusda). He joined the Cameron Highlanders, where he became highly respected as a soldier. He is believed to have been the model for the monument to the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders that stands in Station Square, Inverness.

By 1908, on his marriage to Marion Munro, he was an army pensioner. They settled as cottars at Glen House on 9 Ruisgarry (Gunhill), where their three sons were born.

John died in 1922; his family removing to 5 Lochportain in 1924.
