74239: Sibla MacCusbic

Sibla MacCusbic, born about 1813, was the daughter of Donald MacCusbic and Christina MacAskill of old Borve. Her father died when Sibla was about 12 years old, and her mother took over the tenancy of the croft in his place.

Sibla married Taskill MacAskill, with whom she was to have ten children. The family lived at Sheabie, where Taskill was a farmer. The ruins of their home, Tobhta agus Buaile Thasgaill, are mentioned in The place names of Berneray. However, in 1854 the crofts were cleared for the creation of Borve Farm. The family became cottars at a new home at Ferry, where her husband made a living as a ferryman. He passed away in 1880.
