74046: Jessie Mary Paterson

Jessie Mary was born in 1891, the eldest child of Allan Paterson and Marion MacKay, cottars on 8 Ruisgarry (Baile). Jessie Mary was a pupil at Berneray School.

In 1900 the family moved to 14 Borve, but Jessie Mary’s mother was to die in childbirth later that year. When her father Allan died less than two years later, her paternal grandfather took over the croft and aunt Jessie Mary Paterson cared for the children. By 1911 young Jessie Mary was working as a domestic servant, later moving to Glasgow.
