74009: Allan Paterson

Allan Paterson was born in 1864, the son of Norman Paterson and Margaret MacLeod of Rubha Mor, and later cottars on 8 Ruisgarry (Baile). He became a fisherman owning the boat Pony. He married Marion MacKay in December 1890, with whom he had seven children.

They too became cottars on croft 8, before Allan obtained 14 Borve in 1900, combining working as a yachtsman with his crofting activities. His wife died in childbirth in September 1900, followed by his own death in 1902. Allan’s father took over 14 Borve and sister Jessie Mary stayed to care for the children.
