Effie was born in 1870, the daughter of Finlay Campbell and Margaret Munro, cottars on 1/2 Ruisgarry (Sandhill). Effie worked as a domestic servant and weaveress. In 1903 she married fisherman Roderick Campbell of Backhill. Together they were to have five children.
