John, born 1838, was the son of Norman MacLean and Catherine Paterson of Borve. The family moved to 35a Scalpay during the 1840s.
John became a fisherman and married Mary Shaw of 13 Ruisgarry (Sunhill) in 1869. The couple settled at 35a Scalpay. Following Mary’s death, John married Ann MacDonald. They emigrated to Canada.
