Donald Macleod

Donald Macleod

Donald (1900-1919) was a son of John Macleod and Mary Ann Morrison, 7 Marvig. The family later moved to 12 Murray's Court, Stornoway.

On May 6, 1918 he enrolled in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, Service Number Z9964. He was based at HMS Victory and served for four months of the First World War. His record indicates that he was 5ft 5½ in tall with fair hair, blue eyes and a fresh complexion.

Donald was lost on the Iolaire aged 18 ¾ . He is buried in Sandwick Cemetery and his name is commemorated on the Lewis War Memorial, the Iolaire Memorial at Holm, the Iolaire Centenery Memorial in Stornoway and Loyal Lewis: Roll of Honour 1914-1918.
