John (born 1885) was a son of Donald Nicolson and Catherine Macaulay, 1 Crowlista. He was married to Mary Ann Matheson and settled on her family croft, 3 Crowlista, in what was known as the lower house, there being two houses on the croft. They had one son, Murdo Donald 'Murdanie'.
