70803: Mary MacAskill

Mary MacAskill, born 1832, was the older daughter of that name born to John MacAskill and Mary Morrison of Lag a’ Chealla. Her mother died when Mary was only four years old and her father remarried. In 1850 he obtained the newly lotted croft 7 Ruisgarry (Lag a’Chealla).

Mary became a domestic servant. In 1867 she married Donald Simpson, a quarryman from Redcastle. The couple settled in Glasgow, where Donald eventually became an inspector of police. Mary died in Ruisgarry as a widow in 1900.
