70536: Marion MacPherson

Marion MacPherson, born about 1835, was the daughter of Donald MacPherson and Mary MacDonald of 34 Kilaulay. As a young woman she went to Berneray to become housekeeper for her uncle Reverend Hugh MacDonald. Whilst on the island she met Duncan Boyd, a merchant from 6 Dunskellar, North Uist and married him on Berneray in 1870 – the service was, of course, conducted by her uncle.

A hollow near Loch Brusda is named after her – Glaic Mòr nic Phearsainn.
