Angus MacLeod was born in 1831, the eldest child of John MacLeod and Ann MacKinnon, who crofted in old Ruisgarry. During the 1840s the family were removed to 6 Kyles Scalpay.
Angus returned to Berneray to marry Christina MacKillop in 1863, and their daughter Margaret was born there the following year.
