70133: John MacKillop

John MacKillop, born in 1913 at 10 Ruisgarry (Gunhill), was the son of Donald John MacKillop and Sybla MacAskill, cottars on 5 Ruisgarry (Beasdaire). His mother died when John was still a child, and John was brought up by his aunt Mrs Marion MacLeod (née MacAskill) at Gunhill.

John attended Berneray School from 1920 to 1924, when he moved to North Uist. He was re-admitted to the school from Kyles Flodday (his step-mother’s home) in 1925. Later, John married Agnes Lennie, and the couple settled in Glasgow.
