69833: Rachel MacLeod

Rachel MacLeod was born in 1881, the youngest child of Donald MacLeod and Christina Shaw of Backhill then 5 Borve. She became a domestic servant and wool spinner.

Rachel had two children, Donald and Christy Ann. Her son Donald, the son of John Paterson, died in the Iolaire disaster on 1st January 1919. In 1924, Rachel married John MacLean of 18 Ruisgarry (Brusda), John tragically drowning just four years later, leaving no children. The croft passed to Rachel, and following her death, to her nephew Malcolm MacLeod.
