Donald MacLeod was born in 1870, the son of Murdo MacLeod and Ann Munro, cottars on 1/2 Ruisgarry (Sandhill). He became a farm servant, and in 1900 was allotted his own croft at 4 Borve.
He married Marion MacAskill in 1909, with whom he was to have two daughters. In 1911 his nephew Malcolm Waddell was living on the croft.
