69233: John Ferguson

John, born 1876 in Avoch, was a son of Malcolm and Catherine nee Taylor. His mother died in childbed and his father brought him to 12 Carishader to be raised by his grandparents.

He became a mason (appears in the 1901 census in Wick as a mason along with an Angus Ferguson, born in Uig also a mason).

In 1902 he married Barbara Nicholson from Mid Clyth and they had 6 children- John, Calum, Angusina, Margaret and Angus and William, the last two being identical twins.

John enlisted in the Cameron Highlanders and was killed in WW1. He is buried in the village cemetery at Villemontoire, near Soissons in Northern France.
