Janet Paterson

Janet Paterson

Janet, born about 1838, was the eldest child of John Paterson and his second wife Mary MacKillop of old Ruisgarry, then 1 Ruisgarry (Sandhill). Her mother died when Janet was only 10 years old, and it appears that Janet and her younger brother Angus stayed with their aunt Ann and husband Donald MacKinnon, who were cottars on 2 Ruisgarry (Sandhill), and then at Quay.

Janet married Roderick MacDonald in 1857, following which they lived with his uncle Angus Morrison and his wife Marion on 17 Ruisgarry (Brusda). Janet and Roderick's three children were born there.

The family emigrated to Ontario, presumably in the mid 1860s following the death of Roderick's uncle and aunt.
