64572: Donald Macdonald
Donald (c1816-1904) was a son of William Macdonald and Mary Macritchie from Kneep. According to local tradition Donald built the road at the top of Glen Valtos – to get from the ferry to the church at Baile na Cille.
In 1851 Donald emigrated to Lingwick, Quebec with his brother John and widowed mother Mary. Mary settled with Donald’s brother Norman who had emigrated in 1847, in Winslow. Donald married Marion Nicolson, an emigrant from Carnish; Marion was the sister of Mary Nicolson who married Donald’s brother Norman Macdonald. Donald and Marion had ten children:

Ann 3rd November 1848 – 10th October 1909 (married John Buchanan; with issue)
Catherine born c1852 (married John Ross)
Mary c1854 – 1940 aged 86 (married Walter Gilbert)
Daniel Donald c1857 – 1940 aged 83 (married Flora Macdonald in 1895; with issue – Arthur, Margaret, William and Jennie)
Margaret c1859 – 1888 aged 29 (married Finlay Mackay)
Norman James 20th May 1860 – 30th November 1927 (married Flora Ann Nicolson; with issue)
John Kenneth b c1866 – did not marry
Chirsty born c1868 (married Alex Macleod)
