62346: Malcolm Mackenzie

Malcolm Mackenzie (1916-1945) was a son of Murdo Mackenzie and Jane Ann Nicolson, 1 Marvig.

He enrolled in the Royal Naval Reserve,  S/N AX17606, on July 20, 1934. His record indicates that he was 5ft 8in tall with fair hair, blue eyes and a fresh  complexion. He was a fisherman on Stornoway registered Trust and Cawdor Castle until he was Mobilised on October 29, 1938.

Malcolm served as a Petty Office in the Royal Navy during the Second World War. He was based at HMS Lanka, died on HMS Strathaird  and was buried in the Red Sea. Malcolm was 29 and his  name is commemorated on the Plymouth War Memorial, the Pairc War Memorial and Lewis War Memorial in Stornoway.
