Donald (born 1897) was a son of Neil Nicolson and Gormelia Morrison, 27 Lemreway.
On January 19, 1914 he enrolled in the Royal Naval Reserve Service Number A5570. His record indicates that he was 5ft 6in tall with hazel eyes and a fresh complexion. Donald was a fisherman on Stornoway registered fishing boats and was Mobilised on August 21, 1914. He served in the Royal Navy in the First World War. Based at HMS Vivid, HMS Idaho and aboard HMS Prince George. Donald also served on HMS Drake and survived the sinking on October 13, 1917. He was awarded £18.15/- in Prize Money and his name is mentioned in Loyal Lewis: Roll of Honour 1914-18.
After the War Donald returned to fishing on the Kebboch Head and some time after 1923 he emigrated to Australia.
