59925: John Nicolson

Iain Chaluim Neill

John (born 1891) was a son of Malcolm Nicolson and Margaret Mackenzie, 27 Lemreway.

He emigrated to Canada and lived at Yorkton Saskatchewan. At the outbreak of  War John travelled to Winnipeg and enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Force. He served in the First World War under S/N 81671 in 10th Battalion in France. His record indicates that he was 5ft 7in tall with brown hair, grey eyes, a fair complexion and a tattoo of a ship on his right arm. John sailed from Halifax to France on the SS Vanderland and was wounded several times with bullets and shrapnel  leaving large scars on both legs. He was granted Base work for one month to recover and also suffered with Conjunctivitis. John is mentioned in  Loyal Lewis: Roll of Honour 1914-18.
