59190: John Nicolson
John Nicolson (1893-1932) was a son of Kenneth Nicolson and Peggy Carmichael, 16 Lemreway.
He enrolled in the Royal Naval Reserve, S/N A3845, on November 21, 1911. His record indicates that he was 5ft 8in tall with blue/brown eyes and a fresh complexion. John worked on Bannf, Stornoway and Fraserburgh Fishing boats and was Mobilised on August 14, 1914. Based at HMS Victory he served in the Royal Navy for a short time before being Medically Discharged with a Hernia.
In Lochs, 1928, he married Ann Macmillan, 14 Lemreway. John and Ann went to live in Steimreway but as they were never acknowledged as crofters they were forced to leave. They came back to 14 Lemreway in the 1930s where there were already two other families living on the croft.
