Evander Macmillan

Evander Macmillan (1908-1943) was a son of Donald Macmillan and Christina Macleod, 23 Gravir,

He was a fisherman and worked on Stornoway registered boats including the Mary Jane.

Evander served with the Merchant Navy during the Second World War and  lost his life when  the Merchant Vessel Fishpool was dive-bombed at Syracuse, Sicily on 26 July 1943.

Evander died aged 35, his name is commemorated on the Tower Hill War Memorial, the Pairc War Memorial, the Lewis War Memorial in Stornoway and in  Roll of Honour: Pairc, Second World War.
