Murdo Mackinnon
Murdo Mackinnon (1918-1941) was a son of Farquhar Mackinnon and Janet Macdonald, 3 Caverstay.
The family emigrated to Australia in the 1920s and settled at Wellard, Perth.
Murdo served with the Royal Australian Navy during the Second World War, as a Petty Officer aboard HMAS Sydney. The ship was attacked by a German armed raider and Murdo and 644 other members of the crew were lost. He was aged 23 and his name is commemorated on the Plymouth Naval Memorial, Pairc War Memorial and Lewis War Memorial in Stornoway.
