He emigrated to Canada in 1908 and settled in Alberta. In 1920, at Lacombe County, Alberta he married Margaret Adeline Jones. Finlay and Margaret settled at Dapp, Alberta and they had four children.
Finlay and Margaret are buried at Dapp Cemetery, Alberta
